How we compare

Where the data comes from

  1. Bangladesh Bank. Every month Bangladesh Bank publishes the interest rate range each scheduled bank has announced for each type of lending. We import it monthly and show it on bank rates.
  2. Banks' own documents. Product pages and schedules of charges give what Bangladesh Bank doesn't: product names, processing fees, loan limits, eligibility and card features.
  3. Banks directly. Some banks send us their product sheets.

How we read bank documents

Where a bank's document has a clear, stable layout, a program we wrote for that document reads it exactly. Other documents are read with the help of an AI model. Either way, a person at MoneyPlant checks every product against the source document before it appears on the site.

How we check it

  • Each product's rate is compared with the range its bank reported to Bangladesh Bank. When it falls outside that range, we say so on the product page.
  • Rates and fees that look unusual are checked again by hand.
  • Every product shows its source and the date we last checked it.

How we rank loans

Loans are ranked by total cost: all the interest or profit over the loan, plus the processing fee, for the amount and length you choose. The lowest advertised rate isn't always the cheapest loan once fees are added, which is why we don't rank by rate alone. Where a bank quotes a range, we use its lowest rate and say so.

Credit cards can be sorted by annual fee, interest rate or interest-free period. You choose the order.

Islamic products

Islamic banks quote profit rates under structures such as Murabaha and HPSM. We show the profit rate in the same column as interest rates, name the structure, and explain it in plain words, so you can compare both kinds.

Fees and VAT

Banks add 15% VAT to fees. We show fees before VAT where the bank gives both, so products can be compared on the same basis.

When we get it wrong

Banks change their charges, sometimes without notice. If something on MoneyPlant is out of date, report it and we'll check it against the bank.
